Tazio Nuvolari in the winning Auto Union type D led Manfred Von Brauchitsch in his Mercedes Benz W154 M163 after a spin. M. V. Brauchitsch finished second and H. P. Müller in his Auto Union type D third. It was the last confrontation before the war between Mercedes and Auto Union. It also was the end of the golden age.
